Membership

Chartered Mining Engineers, with a minimum of 10 years of mining experience and at least 5 years of specialisation in specific mineral substances and sectors.

Members

To join the IMEB organisation, it is necessary to hold an official title as a Mining Engineer or, failing that, a Master’s degree that certifies the exercise of the Mining Engineer profession. In the case of foreign qualifications, these must be recognised by ANECA in Portugal and/or Spain.

Furthermore, the candidate must be a member of an Official College of Mining Engineers in Portugal or Spain and have a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in one of the following specific areas:

  1. Exploration and geological assessment of mineral deposits.
  2. Design, planning, and operation of mines.
  3. Metallurgy and mineral processing.
  4. Economic evaluation of exploration and mining projects.

The applicant must also be endorsed by two Mining Engineers registered as IMEB members, in addition to committing to applying the ethical codes established by their professional college and by PERC, and committing to Continuous Professional Development (to maintain their competence).

To satisfy CRIRSCO requirements for acting as a Competent Person, five years of relevant experience must also be required with respect to the particular style of mineralisation and type of mineral deposit being studied, as well as with respect to the type of work being undertaken. Even for the same mineral or raw material type, every project is different and the satisfaction of this criterion implies self-certification by the individual involved.

This definition of Competent Person is subject to any additional restriction or condition that may be required by the stock exchange or the relevant regulatory authority.

The current IMEB members, representing different interests and sectors of the Iberian mining industry, are listed below:
